A skilled and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist is sought to join the Cardiology Ward at a private hospital in Wollongong. This permanent full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to advance your career in a dynamic clinical environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you will work collaboratively with the Department Manager, Shift Leaders, and multidisciplinary team to deliver a high standard of patient-centred care aligned with the hospital's values and strategic direction. You will join an established and dynamic 24-bed cardiothoracic and cardiology unit, caring for patients with varying levels of clinical complexity.
The ward manages a wide range of cardiac and thoracic procedures, including pre- and post-operative coronary angiograms with or without stents, permanent pacemakers, ICDs, EPS with or without ablations, and PVI. Structural heart procedures include TAVI, LAAO, PFO and ASD closures, and MitraClip procedures. Cardiothoracic surgical care includes CABG, valve replacements and repairs, PEARS procedures, as well as VATS with or without anatomical resections, pleurodesis, and biopsies.
REQUIREMENTS
- Current registration with AHPRA;
- Minimum 5 years of recent cardiothoracic experience working in a ward/ unit of this specialty;
- Ability to interpret complex ECG's and escalate clinical needs accordingly;
- Extensive experience in managing and teaching cardiac pacing;
- Confidence in troubleshooting and escalating the complex needs of the cardiothoracic patient;
- A passion for mentoring and educating the nursing staff working within the cardiothoracic setting;
- Excellent written and verbal communication;
- Postgraduate qualifications in Critical Care (Cardiothoracic) or working towards (desirable);
- CALS qualified (desirable).

ABOUT THE FACILITY
The hospital, located in Wollongong, is a 171-bed private acute facility that provides all primary services, including an intensive care unit, 10 operating theatres, cardiac and vascular Labs, and an Endoscopy suite. Surgical specialities include Cardiothoracic, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, Head and Neck, Gynaecological, Urology, Colorectal, upper GI, General, Vascular, and Plastics. The Maternity Unit is made up of 4 birth rooms, 25 postnatal beds, and 7 SCN bays.
