Outstanding opportunities await an experienced Anaesthetic / PACU Registered Nurse to join the Perioperative Services team at a private hospital in Melbourne. This is a full-time position working across operating theatres and recovery areas, with shifts following a rotating roster. The role provides an excellent opportunity to utilise and further develop your perioperative and anaesthetic nursing experience within a supportive clinical environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an opportunity for a nurse who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and is passionate about ensuring patients receive exceptional care before, during and immediately after surgery. As an Anaesthetic / PACU Nurse, you play a critical role in supporting patients through some of their most vulnerable moments, working closely with anaesthetists, surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality care. 

As a Registered Nurse, your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting anaesthetists during induction, maintenance and emergence from anaesthesia;
  • Preparing and maintaining anaesthetic equipment, medications and monitoring devices;
  • Monitoring patients and responding promptly to changes in clinical condition;
  • Supporting safe and efficient theatre workflows;
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and upholding patient safety standards;
  • Providing post-anaesthetic care and recovery monitoring;
  • Assessing and managing pain, airway, respiratory and cardiovascular status;
  • Recognising and escalating clinical deterioration when required;
  • Delivering patient-centred care that promotes comfort, dignity and safety;
  • Coordinating smooth transfers to inpatient wards, day surgery or other clinical areas.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Current registration with AHPRA;
  • Demonstrated perioperative anaesthetic nursing experience, which could be combined with PACU or Scrub Scout;
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and post-operative care principles;
  • Commitment to continuous professional development;
  • Understanding of patient safety, infection prevention and quality standards;
  • Anaesthesia experience is required;
  • Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing, Anaesthetics or Critical Care (desirable);
  • Experience caring for patients across a broad range of surgical specialties;
  • Advanced Life Support certification (desirable);
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills;
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities;
  • A commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centred care;
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail;
  • Familiarity with ACORN Standards and contemporary perioperative practice.

The hospital, located in Melbourne's northwestern suburbs, is a fully accredited 186-bed major surgical, acute medical, and emergency facility. With a 12-cubicle Emergency Department, 5 operating theatres, a 12-bed critical care complex, and a busy Day Procedure Unit, the hospital provides a wide range of services to its community. The hospital specialises in orthopaedics, general surgery, general medicine, oncology, cardiology, urology, plastic surgery, ENT and gynaecology.
