Midwife Unit Manager | Sydney

A leadership opportunity is available for a seasoned professional to lead the Birth Suite as Nurse Unit Manager at a private hospital in Western Sydney. You will be guiding a dedicated multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, and compassionate care.

As the Birth Suite Nurse Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the effective operational, clinical, and strategic management of the unit.

Your role will include:

• Accountability for the efficient and effective management of human, financial, and material resources;
• Providing strong clinical leadership, mentorship, and professional support to nursing and midwifery staff;
• Fostering a culture of excellence in woman-centred care;
• Promoting a positive, engaged, and high-performing team culture;
• Collaborating with VMOs and senior leaders to achieve excellence in patient outcomes;
• Supporting and partnering with other hospital managers to deliver organisational objectives;
• Contributing to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and organisational strategy;
• Ensuring high standards of patient care, safety, and customer service at all times.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Current AHPRA registration;
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in Birth Suite/Maternity Services;
• Demonstrated minimum 3 years' recent experience in leadership in Birth Suite/Maternity services;
• Proven clinical leadership capability;
• Experience or exposure to staff recruitment, rostering, and performance management;
• Confidence in delegation, decision-making, and managing patient flow;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to lead by example, instilling a culture of care, professionalism, and innovation;
• Postgraduate qualifications in Midwifery (desirable);
• Management qualifications (desirable);
• Experience in policy development (desirable).

The hospital, located in Western Sydney, is a modern facility with 12 Operating Theatres and two Cardiac Cath labs. The hospital performs a full range of elective surgeries, including cardiac, neurosurgery, urology, orthopaedic, gynaecology, colorectal, general, plastics, obstetrics, Paediatric, ENT, and Spinal Surgery. The 16-bed ICU provides specialised care for patients who require constant monitoring, intensive nursing care and advanced respiratory, cardiac and renal support therapies.
