Assistant Nurse Unit Manager | Brisbane

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced perioperative nurse leader to join a private hospital in Brisbane as an Assistant Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) - Anaesthetics, Recovery and Day Surgery. Reporting directly to the Perioperative Services Manager (POSM), you will provide operational and clinical leadership across Anaesthetics, Recovery and the Day Surgery Unit. You will work collaboratively with nursing staff, Visiting Medical Officers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while supporting workforce development, service efficiency and clinical excellence.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing day-to-day clinical and operational leadership across Anaesthetics, Recovery and Day Surgery services;
• Coordinating staffing resources and patient flow to support efficient and effective departmental operations;
• Supervising, mentoring and supporting nursing staff to deliver safe, high-quality patient care;
• Promoting compliance with NSQHS Standards, accreditation requirements and organisational policies and procedures;
• Supporting workforce management activities, including performance management, recruitment and onboarding;
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, incident reviews and risk management activities;
• Facilitating staff education, competency assessment and ongoing professional development;
• Monitoring clinical practice standards and promoting evidence-based nursing practice;
• Supporting succession planning and developing emerging nurse leaders;
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive patient and service outcomes;
• Assisting the Perioperative Services Manager in achieving departmental objectives and operational targets;
• Fostering a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, engagement, accountability and continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS

• Current registration with AHPRA;
• Minimum 5 years relevant perioperative nursing experience;
• Significant experience within Anaesthetics and/or Recovery nursing;
• Previous leadership experience at Team Leader, Clinical Nurse or equivalent level;
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate clinical resources and workflow within a perioperative environment;
• Strong understanding of NSQHS Standards and accreditation requirements;
• Sound clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and patient safety;
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff;
• Competency in the use of healthcare information systems;
• Commitment to ongoing professional development;
• Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing or Management (desirable);
• Previous experience in Day Surgery leadership (desirable);
• Experience managing workforce planning and performance processes;
• Current ALS & PALS certification (desirable).

REMUNERATION

A salary ranging from $ 65.54 to $70.27 per hour.

Located in Brisbane, the hospital is a 65-bed acute and rehabilitation facility comprising six operating theatres, with a new High Dependency Unit scheduled to open. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of specialist services, including orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, gynaecology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology and internal medicine, alongside leading rehabilitation services and innovative patient-centred programs.
