Orthopaedic Services Manager | Melbourne

 
ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Orthopaedic Services Manager, you will work closely with the Nurse Unit Managers across Orthopaedic wards to ensure the seamless delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care throughout the orthopaedic journey. With a strong focus on evidence-based practice, service optimisation and clinical excellence, you will play a key role in supporting the ongoing growth and strategic direction of orthopaedic services.
 
Your responsibilities will include:

• Coordinating and continuously improving Orthopaedic services across the hospital;
• Fostering strong partnerships with Orthopaedic VMOs, nursing teams and allied health professionals;
• Driving exceptional patient outcomes through effective discharge planning and length of stay management;
• Supporting and developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams;
• Identifying opportunities for service innovation, growth and program development;
• Promoting staff participation in case conferences and collaborative care planning;
• Monitoring and managing quality, safety and accreditation requirements, including AOANJRR compliance;
• Contributing to policy development and implementation across the specialty;
• Ensuring effective workforce planning, performance management and human resource practices;
• Championing a culture of teamwork, accountability and patient-centred care.

REQUIREMENTS

• Current registration with AHPRA;
• Postgraduate nursing qualification and a minimum of two years' experience within the specialty;
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a clinical environment;
• Strong understanding of patient flow, discharge planning and service optimisation;
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills;
• Experience working collaboratively with medical specialists and multidisciplinary teams;
• Proven ability to lead change, drive continuous improvement and achieve outcomes;
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and organisational skills;
• A commitment to patient-centred care and clinical excellence;
• Experience in human resource management and developing team performance.

ABOUT THE FACILITY 
The hospital, located in Melbourne, is a fully accredited tertiary facility with 334 beds, providing Emergency Services, Extensive Surgical Specialities, a 14-bed ICU, a 17-bed CCU, Medical, and a full range of Cardiac Services including two 24-hour Cardiac Catheter Laboratories and Victoria's only Single-Site Robotic Surgery Program. The hospital has 15 theatres, including a hybrid theatre, diagnostic cardiology, two cardiac cath labs and capabilities for cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, urology and more. All supported by a newly expanded coronary care unit and intensive care unit.
