A unique opportunity exists for a highly motivated and experienced professional to step into the leadership role of Infection Control Manager at a private hospital in Melbourne. This position is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the Infection Control Team, ensuring alignment with the hospital's strategic goals, daily operational processes, budget management, and overall business direction.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Infection Control Manager, your responsibilities will include:
  • Implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the hospital/facility-wide Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program by supporting Department Managers in facilitating IPC procedures, practices, and standards;
  • Reporting on KPIs, undertaking projects, responding to infectious outbreaks, and maintaining relevant information systems and resources;
  • Collecting, collating, and analysing statistical data and infection prevention and control clinical indicators;
  • Supporting accreditation outcomes by collaborating with executives, accredited medical staff, departmental managers, and multidisciplinary teams across the hospital/facility;
  • Providing staff feedback, submitting reports, and managing the development and review of infection prevention and control policies and procedures;
  • Chairing or coordinating the Infection Prevention and Control Committee while leading compliance with National Safety & Quality Healthcare Standards and risk management processes;
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation, national standards, professional codes of conduct, Australian Sterilisation Standards, and organisational policies through partnership with Department Managers and clinical staff;
  • Leading a learning culture by maintaining continuous professional development and providing staff education, training, and guidance on infection prevention and control practices;
  • Demonstrating visible leadership by fostering a values-driven, safety-focused workplace culture and building constructive relationships with VMO partners to support high-quality patient outcomes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Current registration with AHPRA;
  • Demonstrated experience leading quality, performance, and process improvement initiatives;
  • Knowledge of report writing, data collection, analysis, and performance reporting;
  • Experience and ability to develop, implement, and review policies and procedures;
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and support quality improvement activities;
  • Knowledge of auditing processes, compliance requirements, and quality standards;
  • Experience facilitating staff education, training, supervision, and preceptorship;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams;
  • Experience managing customer complaints and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships (e.g., VMOs, patients, families);
  • Knowledge of accreditation processes and healthcare standards;
  • Experience or ability in leading accreditation activities, maintaining risk registers, managing budgets, and monitoring KPIs (desirable).

The hospital, located in Melbourne, is an acute 124-bed facility providing a range of medical and surgical services. The facility offers a friendly and supportive staff environment with a strong commitment to excellence in customer care. These services are supported by a 10-bed intensive care unit, a six-bed neurosurgery intensive nursing unit, four operating theatres, two angiography suites, an endoscopy suite, a coronary care unit, and a day chemotherapy unit.
