There is a new opportunity for a highly motivated and supportive Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) with experience in Surgical nursing and High Dependency Care to lead the Surgical Ward and support the development of a future High Dependency Unit (HDU) at a private hospital in Brisbane. This is a permanent full-time position (76 hours per fortnight).
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Unit Manager will lead the 23-bed Surgical Ward and play a key role in preparation for the planned five-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading clinical and operational management of the Surgical Ward and HDU preparation;
- Delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care;
- Managing workforce, financial and resource allocation effectively;
- Ensuring accreditation readiness and driving continuous quality improvement;
- Maintaining compliance with NSQHS Standards and Work Health & Safety requirements;
- Collaborating with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs);
- Supporting staff development through coaching, mentoring and performance management;
- Promoting a positive, engaged and safety-focused team culture;
- Supporting effective patient flow and operational efficiency.
REQUIREMENTS
- Current registration with AHPRA;
- Minimum four years' experience at NUM level or equivalent;
- Experience in an acute hospital setting, preferably Surgical and/or HDU;
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification;
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification;
- Demonstrated cannulation competency;
- Strong knowledge of the NSQHS Standards;
- Demonstrated workforce and human resource management experience;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- High-level computer literacy;
- Strong organisational, problem-solving, and time management skills.

The hospital, located in Brisbane, is a 70-bed acute and rehabilitation hospital with 3 operating theatres. Specialties include orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, gynaecology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, internal medicine and the delivery of leading rehabilitation services and programs on the Brisbane northside.
